Property tax bills are issued once a year to the property owners of record as of April 1. If you purchase a property after April 1, you should request the tax bill from the seller or request a copy from the Finance Office.
When making tax payments it is helpful if a copy of your tax bill is included. At the very least, a notation on your check displaying your parcel ID is required.
To assist in explaining how to read a property tax bill, the Vermont Department of Taxes has created A GUIDE with brief explanations. A more in-depth explanation of how statewide education property taxes are calculated can be found in FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.
