Fire District

The Norwich Fire District owns and operates a Municipal Water System in the Village which provides approximately 310 homes and 20 commercial businesses with potable water. The Fire District’s objectives are to maintain an adequate supply of superior potable water and a water supply for fire protection within the Fire District of the Town of Norwich.

The Norwich Fire District Office is located at 293 Main Street, below the Norwich Post Office. Regular office hours are Mondays 9AM – 12PM and Fridays 12 – 4PM, unless otherwise posted on the outside office door. The office is only accessible by stairs; if this causes an issue, or you’d like to make an appointment outside of office hours, please call in advance.

Annual tax payments and quarterly water bill payments should be mailed to Norwich Fire District, P.O. Box 777, Norwich, VT 05055. Payments may also be put into the drop box outside the office door.

The Norwich Fire District is governed by a Prudential Committee, comprised of three elected members who have staggered 3-year terms. The Prudential Committee is supported by elected officials of Treasurer, Clerk, Auditor, and Moderator who all have 1-year terms. Meetings of the Prudential Committee are held on the first Thursday at 7PM and third Tuesday at 8AM each month in the Multi-Purpose Room of Tracy Hall, unless otherwise posted.
